Clamp-on / Clip-on Ferrite Cores for Non-Intrusive Cable EMI Suppression
Clip-on ferrite cores—also known as clamp-on or split ferrite cores —are common-mode noise filters specifically designed for cable assemblies. The structure consists of two semi-circular ferrite halves enclosed in a durable plastic housing, allowing installation without cutting the cable. This makes them ideal for after-assembly integration or field-level EMI troubleshooting. When mounted on a cable, the core absorbs high-frequency common-mode noise generated by connected devices, helping to stabilize signal integrity and improve system EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) performance.
The clip-on EMI ring core functions as a common-mode choke, suppressing only common-mode noise and does not affect differential-mode currents, ensuring that normal data or power transmission is not disturbed. It supports a wide range of cable diameters from 5 mm to 13 mm, with custom sizes available upon request. Coilmaster provides both Ni-Zn and Mn-Zn ferrite materials to match different noise frequency ranges—Ni-Zn is effective for high-frequency (>30 MHz) suppression, while Mn-Zn performs better for low-frequency (<30 MHz) EMI applications. Ferrite Core Material Selection Based on Noise Frequency
Available in Ni-Zn (Nickel-Zinc) for optimal attenuation in the high-frequency range, and Mn-Zn (Manganese-Zinc) for better performance in the low to mid-MHz EMI suppression range.
